The Churdan public library wrapped up its summer reading program with the start of school. Prizes were awarded to all participants. Winner of the “Guess the number of space candies” was Walter Wiklander. He received a telescope to go stargazing, following our summer reading theme “A Universe of Stories.” The correct number of pieces of candy was 53.
Eighty-eight children participated in the summer reading program this year and 58 students did the Reading Buddy program. Library staff was able to borrow the star lab planetarium, have the ISU bug program, and learn lots of things about outer space.
The library staff thanked the Churdan businesses, the Greene County supervisors, Beta Tae Delta, and Communities 4 Children and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children neighborhood/Community Network Mini Grant for supporting many summer activities to help kids avoid the “summer slide” in reading. Staff also thanked the Rotary Club of Jefferson and Jefferson Kiwanis for providing many great non-fiction books.
